YEN YEN CHOU

ARTIST STATEMENT:

The work in this show started from my obsession with food, especially sweets. Growing up in Taiwan, I remember going to supermarkets and bakeries with my parents and longing for all the colorful and eye-catching sweets and buttery pastries. I find it curious that I still desire them even though they don’t always taste as good as they look. As a response to this emotional conflict, I create sculptures to explore the ideas of obsession, sensation, and the relationship between natural and artificial.

Yen Yen is an artist based in Taipei, Taiwan and Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Pratt Institute with an M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing in 2018.
