ARTIST STATEMENT:

Unhealthy Sheen: Adventures in Unhealthy Bathing is an ongoing minicomic series about how my depression, perceptual body image, and the act of bathing feed into one another.

When your body doesn’t feel like home, showering becomes an afterthought. Eventually, in an attempt to pull oneself out of a depressive episode, the task of stepping into a shower becomes a goal. Then, a once well-meaning self-encouragement warps into something that must be earned.

These specific deliberation processes - the hesitation to bathe tied to my self worth and image - is an ugliness that affects me every day.
