My work utilizes mixed media to emulate interior emotional and psychological experiences. Like words in a poem, I arrange different substances: creating a world that is relatable, but also mysterious enough to allow viewers to construct their own meanings. Inspired by material-based artists like Alberto Burri, Mark Bradford, and Michel Nedjar, my surfaces become textural elements that harmonize to give my artworks a dark inner life. I mutilate and manipulate materials in different ways - I sand, scrape, stain, smear, and apply on paint, collages, re-purpose recycled materials, wrap, engrave, and assemble This process of layering culminates in works that take on a sculptural and highly textured form that manifests as both figurative and abstract. My style aims to cut through resistance and open the way for both artist and audience to know, to process, and to heal.
