GRANT HAO-WEI LIN
Equilibrium was an exploration of the perception of self and its relationship to the physical form of the body. Lin created this self-portrait amidst the coronavirus-induced lockdown when he was living on his own in California. Manipulated digitally in post production, Equilibrium emphasized Lin’s perceived reality of his own body and state of mind under this unprecedented life experience over the objective physical form of his body. The tense gestures created by the hand and the feet against the pedestal and the morphed body presented a dichotomy between balance and imbalance, identified and anonymous. Lin wanted to question how the meaning of the body continues to change in relation to the perspective from which it is looked at or considered, whether it be political or formal.
