The title “blue/lives” relates to the deadly equation the USA makes concerning law enforcement: the powers of the blue (which represents security and protection to many Americans) divided by the lives of dozens of unarmed civilians who die by the every year as a result of the deadly application of that power.

Working from police data, mainstream media, and independent reports, I create maps and topographic sculptures. derived from Google Maps data, marking the longitude and latitude of documented fatal encounters between an unarmed civilian and law enforcement officers in the United States. The ‘natural’ landscape of the US has been shaped by historical and contemporary trauma- the contours of the land are carved by our collective memory.
